Order of Malta bestows grant to Catholic Radio Indy

Bob Teipen, Chairman of Catholic Radio 89.1 FM, is pleased to announce that Inter Mirifica Inc., the small not-for-profit organization that has brought Catholic radio to Central Indiana, has just received a grant of $10,000 from the American Order of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

The Board of Councillors of the American Association of the Order of Malta made the grant on June 10th of this year. This is the third grant that the local Catholic radio organization has received from the Order of Malta.

The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta, or simply The Order of Malta, as it is more frequently called, dates back to Jerusalem in around 1048. The American Association was established in 1927 at the request of Pope Pius XI.

The purpose of the grant is to help Catholic Radio 89.1 FM in the work of defending the Faith and taking care of the sick and the poor. The station airs many programs that provide a wealth of information that can help listeners defend and explain the Faith. The station provides Catholic programming 24 hours a day at no charge to everyone in Central Indian including shut-ins, the sick and elderly who appreciate being able to hear the Mass and Rosary in their homes.

Teipen thanked Dr. Hans Geisler and George Maley both of whom are Knights in the Order of Malta and Msgr. Joseph Schaedel. Together they were instrumental in helping secure the grant for the radio station. Msgr. Schaedel is the Ecclesial Advisor and Deputy Chaplain for the Order of Malta in Central Indiana. Dr. Geisler serves as Area Chair for the Order in Central and Southern Indiana.

Station Manager, Jim Ganley says the grant comes at a particularly good time. According to Ganley, the station depends primarily on donations from listeners and underwriting from area businesses for its funding. With the present economy gifts such as the grant from the Order of Malta go a long way to help the station stay on the air.
